You Can’t Please Everyone

This is #12 of 40 Things I’ve Learned In 40 Years.  To see a list of these short daily writings, click here.

Most of my work online is focused on helping people lose weight.  And the weight loss industry certainly has its share of false claims and fakes.  With the weight loss industry having such a “colorful” reputation for so long, I regularly receive less than pleasant emails that attack my character.

I get called a scammer (hello if you’ve arrived to this site from Googling “vic magary scam”).

I get called a rip off artist.

I get called a fake.

I get called a disgrace to the military.

I receive these unpleasant emails despite several success stories from people using the program, including a few people who have lost over 100 pounds.  My character is attacked despite having and honoring a no questions asked 100% refund policy.  And people somehow feel cheated when I tell them that they have to eat real food in appropriate quantities and exercise in a manner that is challenging in order to lose weight.

Very few worthwhile endeavors will pass without criticism or outright attack.  You can’t please everyone.

  1. The only ones pleased are those who put in the hard work. Far too many people want the reward without the personal responsibility or effort. Then it becomes the fault of others when the desired results fall far below expectations.

You will never please these individuals.

  2. This is undoubtably one of the most important life lessons any of us can learn. As I get older, I find it becomes easier to live with this fact. I know, for example, that not everyone — or even most everyone — will like my blog or plays or acting or singing or whatever. But I also know my work WILL resonate with some people, which is why I must use my gifts responsibly. And the same is true for you. One small example: I found your through Joel Runyon, so I’m pretty new to your blog. Yet I get enormous value and inspiration from what you share here . . . and so do all the other members of the Vic Magary tribe. So thanks for listening to those of us you help instead of to the naysayers!
